Richard Watson & Douglas Major
Richard Watson and Douglas Major, two classically trained musicians speak on music and spirituality. They recently combined their talents (Richard on trumpet, Douglas on organ) on a recording entitled, “Hope”.
Richard Watson - Trumpet
Richard Watson began studying violin at age 4. Seven years later he was allowed to choose a second instrument. Thanks to an inspirational band director named David Dubinsky, that instrument was the trumpet. He was accepted into Benjamin Zander’s master class and the private studio of Boston Symphony Principal Trumpet Charles Schlueter. He also spent three summers as a member of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra.
In addition to his solo work, Richard Watson serves as Principal Trumpet of both the Nashua and Granite State Symphony Orchestras, and is Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.
Douglas Major – Organ
An internationally recognized solo artist, Douglas major has toured throughout North America, Europe, and the Far East. He has been the organ soloist on tour with the Orchestre National de France and Lorin Maazel, and toured Japan in 1992 and in 2002 with the Empire Brass Quintet. In November of 2005, Major played a concert tour of China, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia. In 2001 and again in 2004 he participated in the American Organist’s Festival in Kiev, playing recitals to standing room-only audiences.
From 1988 through the spring of 2002, Major was Organist and Choirmaster of the Washington National Cathedral. He now lives in Rockport, Massachusetts, where he works as a composer of music for organ, synthesizer, choirs, and chamber ensembles, and also serves as a Music Director of Saint Michael’s Church in Marblehead, MA.
